1) The expressions the models have seem to be a serious mood like something is happening and they are keeping their composure. For the first picture the model seems to be looking at something in the distance. For the second picture the model seems to be looking at something straight ahead of her.
2) I feel that this image was created by oil paint because some parts seem to be like it was brushed on a canvas and that it took a good while to make. I feel like the second image was created with photoshop because the model's body is painted but her hair looks untouched and natural.
3) Yes the color plays in important part on helping the mood of this image. The color on their clothing really makes certain things on the image stand out.
